JCW ONLINE: The Full Story Crash Course in Character Development

April 17 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm UTC-4

Characters are the flesh and bones of your story. Once you have your first spark of inspiration, your story idea, the next step is developing characters that your readers will care about–whether it’s because they’re lovable, hateable, or just relatable.

What exactly does it mean for a character to be developed? Is a character arc the same as a story arc? What’s the difference between main, side, and background characters, and what’s an archetype?
We’ll answer these questions and more in our crash course on character development.

Sara Stone is an avid writer, but more than that she is an advocate for the beneficial effects of writing, both emotionally and intellectually. She is the recipient of a bachelor of arts in English from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and a master of arts in English from City College, of the City University of New York. She has taught composition at the high school and collegiate levels and is currently a teacher and moderator for the nonprofit educational and arts group Jersey City Writers in Hudson County, New Jersey.
