The Museum of Interesting Things Comes to Genre Night

Denny Daniel and his Victrola

Whiskey Saloon, the upcoming Genre Night on September 10th, will be featuring Denny Daniel and his traveling show The Museum of Interesting Things. The event will be held at Third & Vine, a wine and cheese tavern in Downtown Jersey City. The exhibit has all kinds of fascinating relics from American history, including but not limited to bullet removers, glass eyes and a prescription for alcohol. The collection is always expanding and Denny Daniel has suggested that he bring some items from his rare book collection to share with people who can appreciate them as much as he does.

Past Genre Nights have featured authors who work in the specific genre, but finding authors of Westerns who weren’t “pushing up daisies” proved incredibly difficult. By a twist of fate, Jersey City Writers crossed paths with the eccentric and vivacious Denny Daniel, a Steampunk with enduring enthusiasm for collecting old machines and antiques. Here’s a description of the bullet remover from The Museum of Interesting Things website.

Nothing inspires us more than the intricate details of history and we hope this exhibit will spark some ideas for writers as they weave tales of gunslinging desperadoes for generations to come.  As per usual, this Genre Night will include a literary reading of original fiction by local writers. The talent has always been here in Jersey City, congregating in quiet apartment salons and pizza parlors. The support from local venues, generous organizations and a network of hardworking dreamers has given the artistic community of Jersey City a chance to thrive. We’re bringing the written word back from the dead.
